Gerardine obtained a Bachelor in Education from NUI, Dublin and later received an LLB Degree from NUI Galway. She received her Parchment in 1994 from The Law Society of Ireland. In 1995 Gerardine established her practice in Oranmore, Co. Galway, providing a comprehensive legal service within her community.

In recent years Gerardine has completed the following professional courses:

• Law Society of Ireland Diploma in Employment Law
• Law Society of Ireland Diploma in European Law
• Law Society of Ireland Certificate in Personal Insolvency
• Degree Level French from NUI Galway
